Talking on a mobile whilst driving has now been made a criminal offence in theUK but research has shown that even taking a sip out of a bottle of water or scoffing a chocolate bar is enough to lose concentration and cause a crash. Frighteningly, it is thought that those who eat behind the wheel dramatically increase their chances of having a car crash by as much as double!

Driving can be dangerous at the best of times, but at night the risk increases considerably. Even for the most experienced driver driving at night can be quite daunting, especially if you encounter very badly lit areas such as country lanes. The main risk of driving at night is that lots of people are under the misconception that you are able to drive faster at night because there are les people on the roads. This is not the case and statistically speaking we can see that 25% of all accidents happen on the roads between 4pm and 9pm when it is dark. Accident rates also shoot up during the winter time when it gets darker earlier

It is a sad fact of life that we will all be involved in at least one car accident in our lives. Every year lots of people suffer injuries and even fatalities on our roads. It is essential that if we are to protect ourselves that we should wear seatbelts at all times, after all they are designed specifically to protect us. It is thought that since the introduction of legislation in 1983 which states that you must wear a seatbelt if one is fitted, that an estimated 50 thousand lives have been saved in car accidents as a direct result. However, whilst statistics show that 90% of adults in the front seat wear seatbelts only 66% of passengers wear them in the back.

There has been much debate as to whether or not it is a good idea to use a neck collar to help treat whiplash-type injuries. The pain and stiffness that a whiplash victim will suffer is caused by damage to the soft tissue in the neck area and the idea of a neck collar is to immobilise the neck which theoretically allows it time to heal and recover without being put under any additional strain. The idea is that any additional movement may cause the muscles in the neck to become even more damaged and even tear.

It is not just adults who are at risk of sustaining whiplash-type injuries, children can suffer as well. It is important that parents know how to purchase the correct child seat for their child in order for them to be protected in the event of a road traffic accident. In 2006 a new legislation came into effect that made it mandatory for parents to use the correct child seat for their child’s weight, height and age. This is because there has been some research to show that there are certain preventative measures that can be taken to reduce the risk of whiplash related injuries in children.

Some people suffer from nothing more than a stiff neck for a few weeks and then make a full recovery, others aren’t so fortunate and may develop injuries that last a lifetime and make a huge impact on their lifestyles. The most common cause of whiplash is road traffic accidents and the worse kinds of whiplash occur when the vehicle is shunted from either behind or from the side.

When you go into a shop and buy a product you expect it to work and you expect it to be safe. Any business that is supplying products to consumers has a responsibility to ensure that these products are safe to the general public. However, it is not always as simple as this as the blame for defective or faulty goods goes even further back to the actual manufacturer of the product that is found to be unsafe. A manufacturer or producer can be a company that actually makes the products, one that imports products into the country or even a business that customises other manufacturer’s products for their own stores; all these types of companies have a responsibility as far as product liability goes. The stores and retailers that sell the products bought from manufacturers also have a certain degree of responsibility regarding the safety of the products they sell on. Read more about product liability compensation.

Accidents can happen at anytime and anywhere. One of the most common accidents is a slip, trip or fall and the injuries incurred can vary greatly depending on the situation. Sometimes a slip, trip or fall is just an accident and you are able to pick yourself up and carry on. Other times an accident can be more serious and this is usually when a trip is caused by a hazard on the pavement that should not have been there. It is the responsibility of your local council to ensure that all walkways and paths are hazard-free with regular maintenance checks. If your trip was caused by negligence on the behalf of the local council or anyone else then you may be eligible to make a pavement injury claim for compensation against them.
