Marlborough is a market town located in the county of Wiltshire. The town is situated on the bath road which is also known as the A4 which is the old main road from London to Bath. It is 30 miles from Bath and is 75 miles from London. It is famous for a prehistoric mound which is situated near Marlborough College. There is a folk tale that Merlin is buried there and the towns name comes from Merlins barrow, the town's Latin motto translates as: where now are the bones of Merlin the wise? 

The town had a great fire back in 1653 which nearly destroyed it. There is also a market that is situated on the so called widest high street in England. The market takes place every Wednesdays and Saturdays. The merchant's house is located on the north side of the high street. The merchant's house is a 17 th century house that was built for the silk merchant Thomas Bayly. Currently the house is being restored will be open on Fridays and Saturdays with a charge of £4 for adults and under 16s 50p. There is a jazz festival every summer in the town. The live jazz gigs take place over a weekend and are performed in local bars, pubs, clubs and various other venues. Two Saturdays in October there is a fun fair which originally was a mop fair. A mop fair is basically a hiring fair which used to take place in the town to hire agricultural workers.
