Set in North Yorkshire; Harrogate is a large town with many examples of great architecture, the Royal Hall Theatre being the most famous. The Royal Hall Theatre is a grade II listed building designed by Frank Matchem. It is an important national heritage building.

Harrogate was the winner of Britain in Bloom in 2003 within the category of 'Large Town'. From there it went on to win the European Entente Floral competition in 2004. This reprises its win in the first ever Entente Floral competition in 1977. Also in 2005, Harrogate was listed as the UK's 3rd best place to live by Channel 4. In 2006 it came 4th.
