Raynaud’s Disease
This is a vascular disease that affects the blood flow to aspects such as fingers, toes, nose and ears when you are exposed to temperature changes and stress.
80% of the people who are affected by Raynaud’s Disease are women and it is most common in people who are under the age of 35. It is thought to affect as many as 10 million people in the UK.
If you are suffering from Raynaud’s Disease you are advised to keep warm by wearing gloves and socks. You should also avoid stress and medicines that can constrict blood vessels such as decongestants and touching cold objects. People who are suffering from the affects of Raynaud’s Disease are also advised to avoid food and activities that may constrict blood vessels such as drinking caffeinated drinks and smoking. As well as all of these you should avoid artificially cold environments such as refrigerated or highly air conditioned spaces as doing this can help to prevent episodes of Raynaud’s Disease from occurring.
If you sadly do suffer from Raynaud’s Disease you may experience three phases of skin colour changes, which goes from white and blue to red. This is especially evident in fingers and toes. The order of the changes of colour is not the same for all people, and not everyone has all three colours.
