Personal Injury Defined
A personal injury occurs when a person has suffered some form of injury, either physical or psychological, as the result of an accident. There are numerous types of personal injury that you could end up suffering from such as road traffic accidents, accidents in the workplace, and accidents while on holiday as well as product liability, sporting accidents and motorcycle accidents and whiplash injury and slip, trip and fall accidents…the list really could go on!
There are a multitude of types of accidents and the term personal injury also incorporates medical and dental accidents (which lead to numerous medical and dental negligence claims every year) and conditions which are often classified as industrial disease cases. Basically the term personal injury is a very board one and covers a range of injuries; these injuries can have either long or short term effects and the severity of the injuries could range from being mild to life threatening. For example you could end up suffering whiplash from a road traffic accident or you could end up with injuries so severe they lead to brain damage.
Whether you suffer broken or fractured bones through to head or neck injuries the fact remains that most people following a personal injury will need to take time off work in order to recover from the personal injuries that they have sustained. When you start loosing time from work you also start loosing money, which is why it is important to make a claim for compensation if you have suffered a personal injury in the last three years that was caused through no fault of your own.
Suffering a personal injury can restrict the way in which you live your life. As previously mentioned, it can leave you out of work whilst you are recovering from your injuries; it can also interrupt your day to day life, for some people even getting out of bed in the morning could become a challenge. For others you may not be able to take part in a hobby or if you are part of a sports team you would have to stop playing until your injuries healed. Suffering a personal injury can severely restrict your life and depending on how severe your injuries are you may be restricted for months or even years.
