How to Claim for Your RTA

The RTA claim is also known as the Road Traffic Accident claim. When you are involved in a road accident, you should take the necessary steps to ensure that you have all the information needed to file a successful RTA claim. The RTA claim can help to compensate for all the expenses related to the accident including repairs, medical expenses, loss of income, and so on. Here’s a simple guide to show you how to claim for your RTA.

After the accident, the first thing to do is to call the police to come to the scene of the accident. In the event where somebody suffers a personal injury, it’s also imperative to call the ambulance so that the person can get medical treatment as soon as possible. At this point, it’s vital that you take down all the information pertaining to the driver who’s at fault for the accident. Get the driver’s name, driving license information, address, vehicle registration, insurance details, and car make.

If you have a camera, take pictures of the accident scene, focusing on the resting positions of the vehicles. Try to take detailed pictures of the damages sustained by your vehicle. These pictures can be used as evidence when you are making your RTA claim. In case you didn’t have a camera at the time of the accident, you would have to return to the scene with a camera as soon as possible. The tricky part is that the vehicles may no longer be at the accident scene so you have to look for other evidences like visible skid marks or other visual results. While you are at the accident scene, look out for witnesses who may be able to offer positive testimonies about how the accident occurred. Take down their names and contact information.

The next step is to get a hospital or GP report about the treatment of any injury. It’s very important to tell the doctor about all your injuries even if there’s no treatment required. Some injuries such as brain injuries and whiplash may take some time to manifest so you have to inform the doctor about the most minor pain or bruise. Then, contact your auto insurance company and let them know that you have been involved in a RTA. Check to see if your policy will cover your legal costs in the event that you want to file an auto accident claim.

It’s also useful to keep a diary to monitor the physical and psychological symptoms you may have experienced after the accident. Be very detailed in your entries so it’s always good to include information like corresponding dates, shocks, fear of driving, sleepless nights, and so on. All expenses related to the accident must be recorded. The bills for vehicle repair, hospital treatments and visits, storage, and medical expenses should be kept so that they can be presented when you are ready to make your RTA claim.
