Achilles Tendon Injury claim
The Achilles Tendon is also known as Calaneal or the tendocalcaneous. This particular tendon attaches the calf and heal bone. It is a large thick tendon; the biggest tendon in the body in fact. It can withstand immense force but is also extremely vulnerable, especially when it comes to sports.
On of the main injuries that the Achilles Tendon sustains is Achilles Tendonitis. This is the inflammation of the tendon. The symptoms of Achilles Tendonitis are:
• Mild pain after running/exercising that gradually gets worse • Pain along the tendon during running or a few hours after running • Tenderness in the tendon about 3cm above the point where it joins the heal bone. This is especially noticed first thing in the morning • Stiffness of the lower leg, again especially in the morning • Swelling or thickening around the tendon
The causes of Achilles Tendonitis is due to sudden increase of a repetitive movement. Sudden activity puts too much strain on the tendon to quickly, this leads to micro-injury of the tendon fibres. If this stress is on going the body is unable to repair the injured tissue meaning the structure of the tendon is altered, which means continuing pain.
As with most personal injury accidents, the treatment of Achilles Tendonitis depends on the severity of the injury. The common form of treatment is rest to allow the inflammation to go down, including stopping any sports activities for a least a week. You should take regular pain relief and get your heel/leg bandaged if needed. Physiotherapy may also be required to strengthen the weak muscle and in extreme cases surgery may be needed to remove tissue and repair tears.
If you have suffered an injury to your Achilles Tendon that wasn’t your fault you could be entitled to personal injury compensation.
