Can An Accident Happen In The Workplace?

By: Julian Hall

The health of any person is his most-prized possession. More so in the case of a worker who has to slave for his paycheck everyday to make sure his family can eat at least three times a day. But what happens when the worker encounters an accident in the work place?

The occurrence of any accident at work is a common thing because of the nature of his occupation. But most often than not such accident happen because of the failure of the employer to exercise due diligence in making sure that the workers are safe.

Being involved in a work accident can be the worst nightmare for any worker, especially those who rely on their daily paychecks for survival. There are workers who do not even have health insurance to take care of their bills when they get involve in an accident.

The law mandates all businesses to impose safety measures in the work place. The law even requires the procurement of permits before any business can start its operations to make sure that they have complied with work safety provisions. The law imposes very strict penalties for companies violating work place safety provisions.

Despite the safety measures, there are still plenty of accidents being reported every year. Thus, both the employers and the workers should be vigilant of work safety procedures and rules in the place of work to make sure they do not get involved in any workplace accident.

But accidents are unavoidable so every worker and employer should be aware of the proper procedure to take when an accident happens in the work place. All business establishments must have put into place a set of procedures in case a work place accident happens. All workers should be informed of the emergency procedures in case of work place accident. Knowledge of the proper procedure can sometimes minimize the effects of work place accidents and it can even save lives.

Since all work place is prone to work place accident, there should be a first aid kid that contains medicines and other medical provisions depending on the possible accidents that may happen in the work place. There should also be medical aides or workers trained in the proper first aid procedures in the premises at all times.

Any medical procedure applied to the worker who suffered an injury as a result of work place accident should be noted in case the worker files a compensation claim later on. This is also important when the worker becomes very ill and is sent to the local hospital .

The law also requires all establishments to record accidents in the workplace and this should be made available to health inspectors at any time.

A worker who suffers any injury in the work place should report the injury to the supervisor for immediate attention. The worker should make sure his co-workers are aware of the injury and of the steps the company took to minimize the effects of the injury as a result of a work place accident for legal purposes later on.
