Tenosynovitis Claims
Tenosynovitis is the inflammation of the sheath (Synovium) that surrounds a tendon. It often occurs alongside Tendonitis, which is the inflammation of a tendon.
The symptoms of Tenosynovitis are:
- Pain
- Tenderness
- Swelling
- Stiffness in joints
A tendon is a strong tissue that attaches a muscle to a bone. Some (but not all) tendons are covered by a sheath called the synovium. The synovium makes a tiny amount of oily fluid which lies between the tendon and its overlying sheath. The fluid helps the tendon to move freely and smoothly when it pulls on the bone it is attached to.
Any tendon of the body can be affected; however tendons over the wrist and hand are the most commonly affected.
Tenosynovitis can be diagnosed through test such as x-rays; ultrasound and MRI scans. Tenosynovitis usually only lasts a few days but if not treated can last weeks, even months. The effects of Tenosynovitis can usually be treated with anti-inflammatory drugs and if infection is present anti-biotics. In severe cases physiotherapy may be required or a plaster case, in rare occasion’s surgery may also be needed.
Another precaution is to avoid activity that caused the condition in the first place. This creates a problem if the reason you are suffering from Tenosynovitis is a work related reason. This will leave you out of work, meaning a loss of earnings. In the most acute cases it could leave you permanently out of work.
