Whiplash / Neck Injury

Whiplash describes a neck injury that is generally experienced in the sudden movement resulting from a car accident, but it can occur in any other injury where there is rapid movement of the head and neck. Whiplash injury affects the tendons of the neck; muscles nerves and can cause a great deal of pain. Some of the symptoms of whiplash include:

- Ringing in ears

To treat whiplash you will need a period of rest, which will allow the muscles and ligaments around the cervical spine to recover. But too much rest in not advised as this could result in stiffness; general activities which are not too strenuous are advised. Anti-inflammatory medication can be prescribed from you doctor and also applying ice packs and heat pads may also help. Also physical therapy may be beneficial. For severe cased a surgical collar may be worn. For very extreme cases of whiplash injury you may need surgery but this will only be necessary if the disk in the vertebra has been ruptured or torn.
