Tendinitis

Tendinitis, also known as Tendonitis affects the tendons, which are the tough cords of tissue that attach muscles to the bones. These tendons help your muscles move your bones. Tendinitis refers to the inflammation of a tendon. The main causes of Tendinitis are if you have been involved in an accident or through the overuse of tendons. Although Tendinitis can affect any part of your body it is most present in your shoulders, elbows, knees, hips, heels and wrists. Depending on where Tendinitis affects you it may be given a special name such as tennis elbow.

Tendinitis often results in pain, tenderness and a reduced movement in the area affected. In order to help you prevent Tendinitis it is important that you get as much movement as you can; cross-training, stretching and decreasing your intensity when you exercise might help prevent tendonitis.

If you are sadly suffering from the effects of Tendinitis there are a few precautions that you can take to help. These include taking tablets to ease the pain or reduce any inflammation. Ice packs can also be applied to help reduce the inflammation caused by Tendinitis; however the actual problem of Tendinitis will not disappear unless changes are made to stop the repetitive motions that cause it. Changes need to be made to your working environment in order to help stop the effects of Tendinitis; examples of some of these changes include; pacing, rest breaks, reducing the repetitive motions and force, changes to help your posture and the use of ergonomically designed tools and equipment, which will reduce the risk of further injury.

If you do feel that you are suffering from the effects of Tendinitis then it is important that you seek medical help immediately to stop the effects getting worse and so that you have a medical record of your injury. One other aspect that you may consider doing if you are or have suffered Tendinitis in the last three years is putting in a claim for compensation.

If Tendinitis has stopped you from performing everyday activities or if it has stopped you from working then you may be entitled to put a claim in for compensation. The compensation that you would be awarded would be given to you to cover aspects such as your initial injuries, any loss of earnings that you have encountered and any medical costs that you are now facing.
