Cubital tunnel syndrome

Cubital tunnel syndrome is the result of pressure on the ulnar nerve which is one of the main nerves of the hand. This pressure can result in pain swelling weakness or clumsiness of the hand. You might also experience tingling or numbness of the ring and small fingers. Some people experience pain in the elbow on the side of the arm next to the chest.

The ulnar nerve is a connection between the spinal cord and muscles of the forearm and hand as well as the skin on the underside of the hand. This nerve passes across the back of the elbow, behind a bump on the inner side of the upper arm bone.

Often this syndrome is caused by some injury to the region of the elbow. This would include fractures, dislocations, direct hits, and severe twisting of the elbow. The nerve can also be injured with a sudden forceful flexion and extension of the elbow as may occur when the hands are on the wheel of a car in a rear ended automobile accident.

There are some occupations which require significant elbow flexion such as typing, computer data or assembly line work. It can also be called Repetitive Strain Injury. If you have suffered from Cubital tunnel syndrome and you believe it is to do with your working environment then you might be entitled to compensation. Having this injury is not nice and any suffering should be compensated for. Contact Accident Consult today for a free consultation.
