Slip Trip and Falls Accidents
Slip trip and fall accidents are one of the most common types of accidents people have. A simple slip can cause very serious injuries such as back injuries, paralysis, broken bones and head injuries. Many slips and trips happen in the working environment due to poor health and safety regulations.
Slips are very common in public places where they may have walked on wet surfaces, oil or other slippery material on the floor. Ice and snow is another very common cause of slipping. Workers may accidentally leave objects in open access areas where other workers might not notice them and then trip over them.
To avoid slip and trip accidents at work, all health and safety regulations need to be taken seriously and acted upon. Every employee needs to read the regulations and ensure that they are sticking to them. Employers should ensure that regular inspections take place inside and out of the building to eliminate and slip and trip hazards. Ensuring employees know which areas of the work place present potential slip and trip hazards and ensure that they all ware appropriate slip proof footwear for these areas. Ensuring that all employees keep all their work areas clean and free from liquids, cords, wires, boxes and any other items that could cause a slip and trip hazard.
For the home environment you also have to be careful about possible hazards. Children leave toys all around the house which could cause a serious trip. The stair area is a common place for toys to be extremely hazardous. Also frayed carpets are another potential hazard.
Any slips trips and falls that occur which were not your own fault could result in being awarded damages. The accident may have happened in your working environment or in public places or buildings.
