Nose Injury Accident Claims
Have you been involved in an injury that has left you with complications to your nose? Well you could be entitled to compensation. Injuries to your nose can occur after a number of accidents that aren’t your fault. Sports injury, slips, trips and falls as well as road traffic accidents can all lead to a bleeding or even broken nose.
The most common injury that occurs to your nose is it becoming broken. With most injuries involving your nose you will suffer pain, swelling and bruising; however a broken nose is hard to tell until the swelling has gone down. Once the swelling has gone it is advised you visit your GP/hospital where an x-ray or CT scan can be performed to determine the extent of your injury. Most broken bones heal without any problems; however you could be faced with:
• A change in size/shape of the nose • Increased risk of damage to the tissue/structure of the nose, this can cause long term problems • Difficulty breathing/nasal stiffness • Infection of the nose, sinuses or bones in the face • Abnormality in tissue that separates the nostrils • A hole in the septum • Severe infection/brain abscess
If you have broken your nose you will need to wait for the swelling to go down (can take up to 7-14 days) and get it set with nasal packaging and a splint.
Depending on the severity of your accident, depends on the seriousness of your nasal injury. Some injuries to your nose can be extremely serious; you should look out for:
• A nosebleed that won’t stop • If the skin is cut/punctured as it increases the risk of infection • Blood clots in the tissue that separates the nostrils (septum). This can create holes in the nose as well as causing the bridge to collapse, known as saddle nose deformity. •Persistent drainage from one or both nostrils, which could be Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF), which is draining from the brain. If this happens there is a chance you could get a CSF infection, such as meningitis. This can affect your nervous system and can be life threatening.
